Unpealing the Onion: Growing up in a tough neighborhood in South Africa

My wife does not take any interest in the books I read. She prefers non-fiction. She thinks I am still into Walt Disney.
I disappear from her life with a J.M. Coetzee or a Wilbur Smith novel. I am also into Stephen Leather and Michael Connelly. I am one of those guys who lives in reality. My life is adventurous enough without a fictional fix. I grew up, and survived, with respect until today, in one of the toughest neighborhoods and environments in the world.
My parents were working class.
Outside toilets, showers, and having to walk past the angry dominant cock , who ripped open my back, only once, with his 1 1/2 inch spurs, was the order of the day.
These writers seem to have the ability to summarise and capture some of these things which I know, put them in order, and always bring the latest technological advancements in the field to my attention.

My next comments will be on John Grisham , whom, I believe that I have read every single book, but will admit that I wait for the paper back.
His new book, Appeal is a blockbuster.
The next article is going to cover the following links, so be prepared.

There are only two commercially grown genetically modified food crops. Maize(corn) and Soya.
