John Grisham exposes undue corporate influence in the USA Judicial System

In 2007 he and attor­ney Barry Scheck were sued in a civil action by the Pon­tomac County, Okla­homa Dis­tict Attor­ney, for alleged libel, when his true story “The Inno­cent Man” exposed amongst other things, the incom­pe­tence of Bureau Inves­ti­ga­tion agents of the State of Okla­homa. Barry Scheck was the defense attor­ney of one of the falsely accused who were exon­er­ated some 12 years after conviction.

United States Farmer gets $1.3 million for Bayer’s deliberate GM rice contamination

Global Food Secu­rity Act, which increases des­per­ately needed fund­ing for agri­cul­tural research in the devel­op­ing world. Unfor­tu­nately, the bill also requires invest­ment in genet­i­cally engi­neered crops favored by a hand­ful of com­pa­nies like Monsanto.

Farm­ers and gov­ern­ments in the devel­op­ing world have the right to make their own choices about genet­i­cally engi­neered crops. Food aid and devel­op­ment assis­tance should never be pre-​conditioned on accept­ing unwanted and inef­fec­tive genet­i­cally engi­neered crops.
